The Prime Club
  • You’ll gain a lot from The Prime Club even if you’re already doing The Prime by yourself. Consider these questions: Are you the kind of person who loves to learn? Do you thrive in a group dynamic? Will structure and coaching hold you accountable to your health and weight loss goals? Do you want to ask Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary your own questions? Are you ready to dive deeper into Ayurveda? Do you crave a safe, nurturing space to be heard and understood? If you answered yes to any of these questions, The Prime Club is a perfect next step.

    This 16-week coaching program harnesses the power of the group dynamic. You’ll learn even more through your peers’ questions, your coach’s answers, and Dr. Chaudhary’s video lessons on the gut-brain connection. Dr. Chaudhary will also discuss personal Ayurvedic tips and the latest in integrative medicine that she only shares through The Prime Club. Lastly, there’s something transformative about connecting with like-minded people with a common mission.

    We encourage all Prime Clubbers to go through the stages together, if possible. You can always wait until you finish the program, and then start it again when your Prime Club group begins. You’ll detoxify at deeper levels every time you repeat the program.

  • This is an investment in your most precious commodity: yourself! Our price point is based on the actual costs of running the program. Consider that our expert physician Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary designed and oversees The Prime Club. You’ll be able to ask this medical doctor and ayurvedic practitioner your own health questions. A professional coach specially trained in The Prime Club will guide, instruct and listen to you through all 16 weeks. Dr. Chaudhary created a rich curriculum of in-depth video and text lessons on the science and art of healing your gut, your brain and ultimately your life. Your coach moderates regular web meetings where it’s safe to be yourself and share your feelings.

    This one-time fee offers you 16-weeks of personal transformation, as well as lessons and strategies you’ll have the rest of your life! The goal of Ayurveda is optimal health. Beyond the 16 weeks, you can draw from these approaches to maintain an ideal weight, heal from chronic conditions and prevent future illness.

    Other comparable physician-facilitated programs and trainings run upwards of $10,000. With The Prime Club, you’ll invest a total of $299 if you pay upfront. If you pay over six months, it’s just $59 a month! If you refer a friend or family member, we’ll give you a $70 gift certificate that you can use to purchase stage 1 herbs. Refer another one? Get another gift certificate for stage 2, and so on.

We all want to be heard and understood. The Prime Club offers a welcoming space, time-tested wisdom that works, and a nurturing container to hold you. Here are some vehicles we use to propel you forward on your health and weight loss journey:

    • Four Q&A sessions with Kulreet Chaudhary, M.D. Each month, ask the physician your own questions about the book, your symptoms, challenges and breakthroughs as you journey through the program.
    • Nine in-depth videos from Dr. Chaudhary Every two weeks, learn more about the art of detoxification, as well as the science of healing your gut and your brain. Plus, get the doctor’s personal tips on The Prime Club lifestyle and Ayurvedic recipes she only shares with club members.
    • Eight small group coaching sessions Every two weeks, grab your steaming mug of Prime Tea and cozy up in your living room for some Prime Club camaraderie. Your personal coach presents key themes in The Prime, and leads friendly discussions with seven other members who understand just what you’re going through. You’re enveloped by something greater than yourself.
  • The Prime Club is a weight loss program. It’s also a health tune-up program. Your unique constitution will respond in the way it needs. Sometimes a lot of pounds drop away quickly. Other times just a few — or none at all, if your body doesn’t need to lose weight. The Prime Club is cleansing your body, healing your gut and calming inflammation. This is the foundation for good health and weight. We can’t predict or guarantee that you’ll lose X number of pounds. But, if you follow the program diligently, it’s likely you’ll experience powerful physical and emotional benefits.

  • We do not offer refunds once you’re assigned to your group. By joining, you make a commitment to yourself and your team members. Deep detoxification has ups and downs. We invite you to commit to the journey and be open to the changes as they come.

 

The Prime Book
  • Not at all! Adults of all ages can do this program. Remember, we want you to live at the prime of your life at all ages and stages. Keep in mind, as we age it’s best to move through the program slower (especially when you haven’t done detoxification programs earlier in life.) Seniors may want to start with one step at a time for each of the four phases. If you’re beginning stage one, drink Prime Tea for a couple weeks and then add Triphala after a few more weeks, and so on. Whatever your age, go at a comfortable pace.

  • Children have stronger constitutions than adults, so they don’t usually need to detox like we do. As we know, it can be challenging to keep kids on a specific regimen. But if your child is past puberty and suffering from a chronic condition, try giving them Prime Tea and/or Prime Broth a few days a week. The herbs should only be used with the help of a pediatrician trained in natural medicine.

  • Join The Prime Club! This is the most complete, lively experience we offer with this revolutionary program. You’ll be immersed in loving support and practical resources every step of the way. You’ll go through The Prime with your own team, guided by Dr. Chaudhary and a professional coach.

  • Each person is individual and so is the way your body loses weight. Many people start shedding pounds in the first or second stage. It takes longer for others. Some people actually gain a few pounds when they first start The Prime. As your body moves toxins, lymph can accumulate. This leads to water retention, or fake fat. But it’s only temporary! Your body will get more efficient at moving toxins out the lymphatic channels.

    Rest assured, the vast majority of people who stick with the program lose excess weight, in some cases a lot of weight. If you’re at a healthy weight to begin with, your weight may stay stable. There’s still plenty of healing happening inside.

  • Adopt a positive attitude and be patient! As with any new endeavor, it’s tempting to jump in and rush things—but that can backfire. This is a very deep detoxification. It takes time to achieve lasting results. It’s actually better to take your time with each phase, rather than rushing through. Be sure to drink lots of warm water all the while! It will help flush out those toxins, and make it a more pleasant experience.

  • There are many meditation techniques, so experiment and find one that works well for you. In The Prime, Dr. Chaudhary recommends Transcendental Meditation. She started TM at the tender age of nine, and has been practicing more than 30 years! More than 380 peer-reviewed studies document the health benefits of TM. It’s been shown to normalize blood pressure, reduce insomnia, lower the risk of heart attack, and improve memory. Don’t worry, with TM you don’t have to concentrate or control the mind either! The most important thing is that you establish a daily meditation practice that suits you.

 

Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary
  • Kulreet Chaudhary is a medical doctor, specifically a neurologist, as well as a neuroscientist. She’s got serious credentials! Dr. Chaudhary earned her Medical Doctorate from Loma Linda University, completing her internship at UCLA and her neurology residency at UCSD. Dr. Chaudhary is unique in that she also got certified as an Ayurvedic practitioner. Dr. Chaudhary practiced neurology, in combination with Ayurveda, for 10 years at Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California. She’s considered a pioneer of integrative medicine.

  • Dr. Chaudhary is no longer seeing patients. She’s shifted her focus to helping others through The Prime Club. She’s also doing clinical research on how natural medicine can treat various diseases. In her other day job as Chief Medical Officer at New Practices, Inc., Dr. Chaudhary is working to bring compassionate, patient-centric medicine into the allopathic sphere.

 

Your Health
  • Dr. Chaudhary used this program with her neurology patients for the past ten years. Many people with conditions like MS, Parkinson’s disease, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Alzheimer’s saw great improvement in their symptoms. Some went into remission entirely. That’s because The Prime treats the root of many modern illnesses: a toxic, inflammatory state and a compromised gut. However, this program is not a substitute for medical treatment from your regular doctor or practitioner. We can’t predict which symptoms will improve for each person. We are confident in saying most people experience great benefit from the program.

  • We have encouraging news. Many people who finish The Prime either reduce or eliminate their antidepressant medications. But any changes to your prescription drugs must be done under the care of your physician. Typically, your doctor will taper off your medications over several months.

  • Absolutely, but you may want to do The Prime before any other diet. This way you “prime” your body to succeed. Plus, you may not need a diet after reducing inflammation, healing the gut and flushing out toxins. Getting to those root issues makes the pounds fall away spontaneously.

  • Yes, the herbs and spices from our Prime Club shop are gluten-free. We source them from vpk Maharishi Ayurveda, which uses traditional Ayurvedic methods to make their herbal formulas. The vpk ingredients are gluten-free and most are certified organic. They also test the products vigorously for heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants. If you have a gluten sensitivity and purchase other brands, be sure to check with the manufacturer.

  • We don’t recommend taking herbs while you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. However, many of the diet and behavioral recommendations are perfectly safe. In particular, you’ll want to favor well-cooked foods over raw foods. This is because you’ll digest cooked foods better and they’re more nourishing for you and baby alike.

  • The Prime is generally safe for most health conditions. We always recommend consulting your own physician to make sure the program is safe for you.

  • No, never stop your medications without consulting your physician first. However, some people don’t need as much medication during or after The Prime. As you’re going through the program, check in with your regular doctor to see if you need to adjust your dose.

  • Yes, and believe it or not, it’s a very good sign your body is responding to The Prime. Irritability usually means you’re detoxing. As toxins come out of their hiding spots, we can feel emotional swings of all sorts. But this will pass. Drinking lots of water will make your detox symptoms lighten up and move out faster. Also read the “How You Will Feel” section at the end of each stage for helpful tips. You’ll find them in Chapter 6 of The Prime. (See pages 138-139, 156-158, 169-171 and 184.)

  • Headaches are a common sign you’re having a detox reaction. It usually means you’re uprooting more toxins than your body can flush out. Drink more water (a lot more water) and increase the dose or frequency of the psyllium/flax mixture. That usually takes care of it. If it doesn’t, take the program slower by decreasing the recommended doses. For instance, drink 1 – 3 cups of Prime Tea instead of 4 – 5 cups. If you’re having severe headaches, stop the program and seek medical attention, as this may be unrelated to The Prime.

  • It’s not uncommon, actually. You’re mobilizing toxins, called ama in Ayurveda, which is a sticky, sludge-like substance. It can stop you up a bit. Drink more water and add extra fiber to your diet with the psyllium/flax seed mixture. If you’re still constipated, you can take an occasional senna tablet or tea (up to three times a week) until things are moving again. But it’s not a good idea to take senna often or for a long time.

 

Herbs and Spices
  • We want to make this easy so we’re stocking all The Prime products in our shop. Our favorite Ayurvedic herb company, vpk by Maharishi Ayurveda, created special Prime packages for every stage of the program. You might also find the herbs and spices at your local health food store, an Indian grocery story or www.Amazon.com.

  • Nope, it’s not necessary to refrigerate your herbs. If you want to prolong the shelf life, you’re welcome to keep them in the fridge.

  • The Prime describes when and how to take each of the herbal remedies. We recommend you follow the protocol in the book as closely as possible.

  • You can and we often recommend starting with The Prime Tea. But keep in mind The Prime is a systematic, four-stage program. When you do things in the right sequence, they’re synergistic and therefore more powerful than stand-alone treatments.

  • Sure, feel free to take all your other supplements. During the program, your absorption of nutrients will naturally improve. Afterward, you may want to lower the doses of your other supplements—or you may not need them anymore. Do whatever you think is best. The Prime easily fits into your own regimen.

  • While most insurance companies don’t yet cover herbal remedies, it’s worth asking your individual plan what’s possible. Some people get a discount by buying the supplements through an FSA, or Flexible Spending Account. In this case, they typically need a doctor’s note recommending the herbs.

  • Before starting any health program, including The Prime, check with your personal physician. We’re not your doctor and can’t weigh in on your health condition. In general, the herbs are safe and most people tolerate them well. In fact, many of these natural remedies reduce inflammation, which helps with all kinds of ailments.

  • Many of the products come in pill or capsule form, which masks the flavor. Believe it or not, tasting the herbs and spices actually makes them more effective! Our digestion starts the moment we put something on our tongue. It’s best to take the herbal formulations recommended in The Prime. If you can’t stand the taste, it’s fine to switch to a pill or capsule for some of the powdered products such as ginger, ashwaganda, Brahmi and triphala.

  • Most reactions signal that toxins are moving through your body. But if you’re really uncomfortable, seek medical advice or see your doctor right away. If you’re having a severe reaction, as with any medical emergency, we recommend you call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

 

Broth and Juicing
  • Bone broth is packed with nutrients and minerals that nourish and repair the digestive track. There’s really no substitute. But we understand it’s a personal decision to consume animal products, and we want you to be comfortable above all. As a longtime vegetarian, Dr. Chaudhary wasn’t willing to drink bone broth for almost two years. She finally added it to her diet because of the unique role it plays in gut health. If you simply can’t do bone broth, take vegetable broth instead.

  • Thank goodness for the slow cooker because you don’t have to babysit your broth for two days straight! Even so, if you’d rather purchase bone broth, look for organic broth from grass-fed animals if possible. We’ve found some quality shops on-line. The Brothery can FedEx frozen broth to your doorstep. We also like organic broth from Bonafide Provisions, which offers a store locator and on-line ordering options.

  • We favor chicken bone broth actually. With current farming standards in the U.S, it’s more likely that larger, intelligent animals suffer from poor health. If you’re confident the cows are grass-fed and raised humanely, beef broth may be fine. If you don’t like chicken broth, you might also consider fish broth or goat broth. If you’re strictly vegetarian, vegetable broth will still provide some nutrients, although it doesn’t heal the gut lining in the same way.

  • We don’t because it’s so beneficial to drink juice that’s fresh-squeezed (or cold pressed if you prefer) the same day. It’s great to make your own because you can buy the right organic veggies for Prime Juice. It can actually be a fun process, one that puts you in touch with the vibrancy of the vegetable kingdom! If you just can’t find the time or will to juice your own, try a local juice bar or health food store. Some will even do custom blends.

 

Ayurveda
  • The National Ayurvedic Medical Association, or NAMA, is an excellent resource that lists Ayurvedic practitioners by location.

  • “Ayu” means life and “Veda” means knowledge or science. So the word Ayurveda translates into the knowledge, or science, of life. This holistic healthcare system dates back 5,000 years to ancient India! Although it’s the world’s oldest recorded medical science, it’s more relevant today than ever. Ayurveda sees food as medicine, and believes all health is related to the gut. (Modern medicine is just starting to uncover that with new research on the “microbiome.”

  • In Ayurveda, we each have our own mind-body type, or constitution. We’re actually a blend of all three types, but one (or two) usually take center stage. Our dosha determines everything from our mind set to our body frame, our temperament to our temperature. In a nutshell, the type called Vata tends to be creative, enthusiastic, sensitive and thin-framed. When stressed, Vata can become a worrywart. Pitta people are athletic, strong-willed and intelligent leaders. When they heat up, Pitta has a temper! Kapha types are larger framed, easy-going, nurturing and calm. But when living out of balance, Kapha becomes lethargic and melancholy. Intrigued? Take our fun dosha quiz to learn your own mind-body type!

  • We recommend an on-line resource called vpk by Maharshi Ayurveda. They have a big library of blogs, articles, videos and recipes on Ayurveda. (They also stock The Prime Club medicine chest with all the herbs you’ll need for The Prime.) As far as books go, we like Perfect Health by Deepak Chopra or Ayurveda: The Science of Self-Healing by Vasant Lad.
